Song Information:

Lyrics -- Most of the imagery is Josh's, most of the context is mine.

The strummy acoustic guitar & the tele were played simultaneously (live in Jefferson, Maine!), me on acoustic, Josh on electric. The drums are GB loops, I played everything else and sang here in the Crow's Nest in Somerville.

As nostalgia is kinda the point, I went for a garagey '80s "cowpunk" vibe, and feel like I got it. Yes, there's some clipping on the vocal track and in some of the guitar, but I like it for this song, so sue me.

Song Lyrics:

Sitting on the porch, I remember the days of the B & M
It was all black & white -- the world we knew was so different then
The only grey to see was on the spools of the newswreels
Folks on the right of way knew those rails and used them
Now the rails are rusted, the ties have been busted
Now it's all door to door, the depot's gone to rubble
Will I still make the trip, hear the loons on the Damariscotta
When there's water through the wall, and all manner of trouble

How I wish I could ride on the rails of the B & M
My guitar by my side, to play this song with you again
There were times when Jeff's drums rumbled like a train
One more beer from the bar then another, and again
For the Boston and Maine

Once logs and shoes rode those rails back and forth
Now it's money and folks on a parallel course
Take the O'Brien Highway to the Kennebec and Sidensparker
Leave Fenway for Monhegan Plantation and Hibbert's Gore
They say the pride of the line has been left far behind
That last load roared to the north -- as a choice has been made
Now it's after the war, there is just one directive
And the view from this porchh is a honeyed green glade

How I wish I could ride on the rails of the B & M
My guitar by my side, to play this song with you again.
There were times when Mikey's drums rumbled like a train
One more beer from the bar then another, and again
For the Boston and Maine
