Song Information:
Well this is the song I posted the other day called "Foot" with the words I was working on. I guess the words find their source in Lauralee Summer's book, "Learning Joy from Dog's Without Collars", in part, and also because my wife works with homeless single mothers and their children. Most of my wife's struggles in doing her job is that these women have no place go. Ms. Summer's book, which is about her childhood growing up homeless with her single mother, has passage that vividly describes how this life has a lot to do with just pushing a shopping cart with your possesions around from place to place and spending the day in coffeeshops because there's no place else to go. (you can't stay in the shelters during the day usually). I guess I wanted to capture that feeling here.
I use a lot complicated world beat loops and rhythms along with some soft drum loops and I play piano, the Claire Fitch Cello software instrument, and strings, and sing.Though I wish I had gotten over my cold first.
Song Lyrics:
Passing the hours inch by foot
Pushing my cart up on over the hill
All that I have, Ive happened to find
Finding nothing at all by the side
Of the road laid at my feet
People come by and they look at my world
Invisible hands clutch it close to my chest
Whatever it was, was something I lost
And wherever Ive gone Ive gone there
Down the road by these feet
Every day is a surprise
Every day is a struggle
To stay upright
To stay warm and mobile
An old cloak, the rough wool
Smells when its wet with a sad sort of odor
That I cannot erase
I sit in the donut shop most of the day
Over a cup of coffee yesterdays paper and I dream
When its time to go just send me on my way
I dont mind
Ive never been that comfortable here anyway
Everyday is a surprise,
every day is a struggle
To stay upright
To stay warm and mobile
