Song Information:

My friend David came to me a few weeks ago telling me he had the best lyric for a kick-ass country song. I was unconvinced, even though I liked his lyric: "glass of whiskey and a shot of beer." Like things had gotten so bad for the singer that no, it wasn't a shot of whiskey and a chaser -- it was a full glass of whiskey and then some beer needed. I was skeptical, but once we started writing, it started coming together. We both agreed that since we're not country singers, we shouldn't try a country song. We went for alt rock. This is what we came up with.

David, not a singer, lends his nascent vocal talents to back-up vocals. I'm playing my Gibson guitar, trying to do all the changes, which I can't quite do quickly enough, but it's almost there ....

Song Lyrics:

Last night sitting in the same place
Same bar same beer same damn space
Been here before -- I know it cuz I've been here all year

Toss back we're back at the boathouse bar
Want you, want me, how'd we come this far
I see it clear -- desire flew outta here

Running my finger along the bar top crack
Admitting to myself we can never go back
That's why I'm thinking that's why I'm drinking here
I need a glass of whiskey and a shot of beer.

Right now if we were sitting face to face
You'd understand, even want one last embrace
A moment to keep, one more moment to hold

Set down trying to make things come out right
A little sad, a little mad, no need to fight
One more for you and one more for the road

I keep thinking too much
I keep drinking it's such
A long, long way to go
I wish to hell I knew why
I wish to hell I could cry
I'm so thirsty, I'm so thirsty
I'm dry

Close out it's the moment to apprehend
Four years swiftly coming to an end
I should have left here about an hour ago

Car keys along the bar top crack here
Enough said I know this is my last beer
It's time to pick, time to pack up and go

Running my finger along the bar top crack
Admitting to myself I can never go back
That's why I'm thinking that's why I'm drinking here
Another glass of whiskey and a shot of beer.
