Originally penned "Can the Circle Be Unbroken (By and By)" by Ada R. Habershon and the music by Charles Gabriel in 1907 as a hymnal.

The most famous versions of this old hymnal are done by Maybelle Carter in 1930 and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1972.
