It helps to understands this swiftly produced little ditty if you've been following the reaction in the media to the aftermath of the Second Test in Sydney.

The Indian players threatened to end their cricket tour and to go home unless an Indian player found guilty of racial abuse were allowed to play. Meanwhile, though the Indians considered it wrong even to accuse that player of racial abuse, they reported an Australian player to the match referee for allegedly calling an Indian player a bastard, the bastard.
Also, the captain of the Australian team has been calumniated for not seeking the Indian captain to shake hands with him after the game ended (though no-one, strangely, has criticised the Indian captain for not similarly seeking the Australian captain).
Also, the Australian team has been roundly abused for triumphantly celebrating a close and wondrous victory which few in the media expected, the arrogant gits.
Furthermore, the Australian captain wants players' honesty respected when it comes to ascertaining whether catches were lawfully caught, but is prepared to wait for umpires' decisions when, apparently, caught behind; some in the media have said this is contradictory, but this is not so: it is right to wait for an umpire's decision when you may have nicked a ball (for you could be mistaken); but it is fair and right for an honest player to be believed when he knows that he took a catch cleanly, though no-one else (including far-off cameras) could see.

So, find the bastard who called that bastard a bastard, and throw the book at him.

Song Lyrics:

Ponting and his team, this time, have gone to far
so you bring the feathers and I'll grab the tar;
they're all bastards, what bastards they are.

If you have a glorious, triumphant win,
don't let the media catch you with a grin;
they're all bastards, what bastards they are.

"You're all bastards, you're all bastards,
you're all bastards, you're all bastards
you're all bastards, what bastards you are."

Injuns are as honest as the days are long:
they only ever lose if others do wrong;
"they're all bastards, what bastards they are."

Injuns are upset by Aussies' strident calls.
so they say they'll go home, taking bats and balls;
"they're all bastards, what bastards they are."

"We're not playing, we're not staying
we're not playing, we're not staying,
you're all bastards, what bastards you are."

Who is being arrogant, acting like that?
and tell that Harbajan he's a great big twat;
"they're all bastards, what bastards they are."

Aussies are known to be offensively blunt:
tell that losing skipper "you'r'e a whining tnuc."
"They're all bastards, what bastards they are."

"You're all bastards, you're all bastards,
you're all bastards, you're all bastards
you're all bastards, what bastards you are."
