Song Information:
I wrote this song when I was going through a remarkably bizarre divorce. It was easily the lowest point of my life. My ex's parents were these manipulative ultra conservative religious types and one day they just decided I was too evil or wordly or something and my wife gave me the boot. Our money was gone. My life completely started over in one day and I didn't want it too. I was angry and depressed and exhausted and confused. I felt completely disconnected from everything. It's a miracle I didn't lose my job because I started drinking really heavily and I was hung over at work every day. Sometimes to the point I could barely sit up at my desk. It took awhile, but I got better.
I hate this song. It brings back way to many bad memories but when I wrote it it was really a great release. All I did other than work and drink is write songs. It was like this incredible emotional vomit. It was painful and awful but I felt better afterwards. I don't like going back to those songs and rarely listen to them.
Anyway, a friend of ours on MacIdol is going through a shitty time and I thought maybe if I put this up here it could help a little. Hope you hear it Steve. You're not alone man. I've never met anybody on here, but I consider you all friends and I appreciate this community a great deal.
Song Lyrics:
ASPHALT AND TAR
Will you shelter me from the storm?
The streets are wet and the gutters are swollen
The sun is shining for some other soul
The young Colombus of some other road
Will you take me in?
This vagabond pilgrim
Sailng rivers of asphalt and tar
I hung my head low
Like I forgot everything that I've always known
I stared into the eyes of the angry mob
They looked at me and they called their hatred love
Will you take me in?
This vagabond pilgrim
Sailng rivers of asphalt and tar
The snow was falling so fast
In no time at all it covered pver all my tracks
I called home to tell you I was fine
But there were to many other voices on the line
And you will never take me in
So I head off again
On these rivers of asphalt and tar
