Song Information:
This song is about going to dances where they play old Motown and Tamla records. It's also about how much I love the music of the British Invasion. I've got this great book with interviews from all the important bands of the era except The Beatles. (They figure if you're reading the book you probably don't need any more info on the Fab Four. It says so right in the intro.) Anyway, Mick Jagger is quoted saying that the Rolling Stones would never write any of their own material because they would never be able to play R&B as well as Americans did. The book also talks about Pete Townshend's introduction to the same music when the band was first introduced to mod culture. That stuff is a really big deal to me.
