Song Information:
This traditional song arrangement is greatly influenced by the legendary Jim Rader who used to slay 'em at the Boston open mics. I used to jump and strum away on the banjo to this, but I thought I would abstain from banjofication this time. I also play it a little slower, but I thought this might be hauling time for some. The long introduction is inspired by Bill Frizell's version of Shenandoah on his East/West record where he starts out quietly with loops and ambient noises before coming in with the melodic statement. Again other than Drums on Demand drum loops, I play all the instruments, which include e-bow guitar and real viola, a couple electrics and acoustic guitar. Soft synths include Gamelan, Orchestra Tubular Bells, sound effects, sitar, and acoustic bass. Then I sing a couple times in a rough sort of double tracking and harmonizing. I didn't polish that too much on purpose.
