Song Information:

I'd uploaded a version of this one up here previously, a while back, shortly after I wrote it, and I was thinking of songs that perhaps I could play live while going through my lyrics book and came upon this, I was reminded that I always meant to revisit it. The original version got some great comments but that only glossed over some problems, so I re-recorded almost all of this, just using the same drum track (though I did have to do some editing of that as well). I like the drum track as it uses a really neat Drums on Demand odd time loop set that is organized in alternating 7 measure and 4 measure loops. I changed a word in the bridge that needed to be changed. Also recorded 2 new acoustic guitar tracks, organ and glockenspiel instead of steel guitar, bass guitar instead of a software acoustic bass, new lead vocal plus a harmony, and I got rid of tambourine loops I used first time around. The original is here: http://www.macjams.com/song/2599

The story of the guy in the song isn't necessarily my story, it's just an idea that I had, about how you have these moments of realization out of all the turmoil that life throws at you. I am not sure, but I seem to recall the expression, "She looks like trouble in 7 directions"; it might just be my imagination, but sometimes you can tell when you see someone going into a relationship how things are going to go, but relationships are funny things, you can't live with them and you can't live without them. Like a fair number of my songs, this is meant to be humorous- despite my somewhat doleful delivery, I hope it's taken that way.

The song art is a watercolor painting I did a number of years back called "the moon in his hand"

Song Lyrics:

The light went on

hey Hey hey Hey Hey Hey

She started to talk and just kept talking
He went for a walk and just kept walking
He heard the words someone was speaking
Through the haze someone was smoking
Started to think as the music was playing
and the light went on

Looked like trouble in 7 directions
Felt like a problem on closer inspection
Couldn't be helped if he felt helpless
He was feeling somewhat listless
When he looked around it looked like a mess
and the light went on

In the grey light of the dampening twilight
everything seemed a little less harsh
and softened around the edges a little too aimless
even when he's been pushed a little too far

Hey hey hey hey hey hey

He went for a walk and and just kept walking
And if it seemed funny it's because his mind was cracking
he said look at that debris look at my discarded heart
Tell me where to go tell me where to start
Started to think and the music was playing
as the light went on

Hey hey hey hey hey hey
Hey hey hey hey hey...

In the grey light of the dampening twilight
everything seemed a little less harsh
and softened around the edges a little too aimless
even he's been pushed a little too far

Hey hey hey hey hey hey
Hey hey hey hey hey...
