Song Information:

The words were written on the arvo of Mon. 28 Aug., and I recorded the song during the evening of the same (and running into the early hours of Tues., 29), but I wrote the music (and had the basic idea for the song) several years ago when I saw a documentary on Sonny Liston. Unfortunately, it seems that I got the quote wrong: only after I submitted the song to Macidol did I bother to search for the original quote, and (though I don't discount that he might just have said variations to other people) it seems that he actually said, "someday they're gonna write a blues for fighters." Gonna, oughta; same diff. Searching for the quote meant that I also discovered that a famous guitarist has already released a song on the same theme. Oh, well.
When I say that Liston died alone, I'm referring to the fact that, with his wife's being merely out of town at the time, there was no one (except perhaps his killer, if he were murdered) with him at the time of his death. The repeated use of the phrase "he was a man" refers to his epitaph.
This is just a demo: the finished version won't have anywhere near as much steel guitar, and the lead break will definitely feature electric guitar.
I may also alter the words a tad.
