Chinese New Age artist ZhouQi uses ambient textures, combining eastern pentatonic modes with western harmonies introduces her first album, entitled "AHHH".
Originally from Turpan, a city in Chinas Xinjiang province, she has the influences of middle eastern culture but with a definite Chinese flavour. Her voice is subtle yet glides effortlessly across a musical landscape of shimmer and hope.
The title track "AHHH" features a haunting motif with an interesting overlay of shimmering chimes and nature sounds but in keeping the rhythmic style of Xinjiang ethnicity. Tones are melancholy and mediative amiss beautiful abet complex harmonies and meter which flow in and out like the overlapping waves of a windy shore. The ending with the cathartic "Ahhh..." is most appropriate.
Undoubtedly, she receives influences from New Age singers Dadawa and Enya. She excels.
One word describes her music. Enlightening.
In order to broaden her market, she has recently moved to Toronto, Canada.
