Song Information:

this is one long jam that is pretty darn rough at times. but it's also cool -- especially when the sax player riffs over the wrong two-chord vamp during his first solo. he's in a closely related key, though, so it sounds half decent but a bit off throughout. his second solo, played around the correct two chords, is much better, as is the second (long instrumental) part of the song. (if you listen closely, you can hear me yell the right changes mid-song.)

one additional note: the very end is messed up. something strange happened when i recently converted the sound file to an .mp3. the ending skips like an old-fashioned record! an unintentional nod to beck or the beatles.

Song Lyrics:

Words and music by Erica Rowell

On a clear, cloudy night
The moon was shining as the sun shone bright
As she drove through the streets of the unknown town
She saw glimpses of things she'd once known
By the side of the road, an old man slept
With his face in the gutter and his hand clenched
A distant din and lights from a place
She drove by unaware, a tear on her face.

Passed the town by on the way to her destination unknown

The streets half empty, the sidewalks filled
With people in a daze. She was driving in a haze
As she drove through the streets of the unknown town
Her mind aracing but her head hung down
A woman peered from behind a shade
The look on her face beginning to fade
An empty house seemed to beckon to her
She drove by still unaware.

Drove on to another town, her destination unknown.

As the town grew small, she drove ahead
Past the cornfields yellow and the pastures brown-red
Green pines loom under a sheltering sky blue
Starting to wonder why
All this time and all this space
All this distance, isn't it a waste
And the sky opened up, thunder pushing down
Made her drive even faster to the oncoming town.
