Words, Music, Vocals, and Guitar--Patrick Clark

This began as a simple rhyming exercise, then became a stream-of-thought thing. A couple of my heroes are John Prine and Kurt Vonnegut so no wonder I write silliness like this occasionally.

Song Lyrics:

Verse
I like to play out in the rain
And watch my life go down the drain
I'd put a needle in my vein
Just to keep everybody out of my brain

There are too many stupid rules
And far too many useless fools
I learned only one good thing in school
When all else fails, try to act cool

Chorus
Heaven is a long, long way from here
And how to get there ain't exactly clear
So I look for directions everyday
Hoping someday I'll find my way

Verse
I met God once in a dream
He was pumping high-test gasoline
Into His rocketship machine
I'm sorry but I don't know what that means

The world was closed for business yesterday
The banks gave all their money away
We all just went outside to play
I think we should do it again today

Verse
There's only one thing missing from this song
The part where everybody sings along
It's a thin, thin line between right and wrong
And it's been going on too long

So close your eyes and rest your head
And think on some of these things I've said
It could be worse, you could be dead
But you're just going to sleep instead
