Tchaikovsky based this piece on Amadeus Mozart's
Ave Verum Corpus. The Symphony Concert of the
Russian Medical Society, was the first concert ever conducted
by Tchaikovsky in Moscow. The "Mozartiana" Suite was a great
success being performed for the first time in concert there.
