A sincere thanks to my friend Steve, for letting me put lyrics/vocals to his fab instrumental track!
And yes, there is an incongruency to the laid-back instrumentals and the rather bitter, brittle lyrics, but that was intentional.
The lyrics are brooding and resigned, yet not angry--though they certainly could be presented in a more edgy and angry way.
Ultimately, though, it seemed an interesting contrast to have the soft vocals in a sort of haunting acknowledgement of bittersweet resignation.
And dropping most of the reverb away, except for a couple of places for effect, seemed to bring the song into the context of a conversation--more immediate, imploring and intimate.
