The Gene Yazbahr Band
"Lady of the Lake"
:[ info ]:
Since we see that this site does not allow cover songs and since we have not recorded any original material yet, we offer one of our favorite traditional English pieces, March and Chorus in the Dramatic Romance of the Lady of the Lake, which we give a brand new jazzy treatment and a much shorter title. If the melody seems familiar, that is because this 19th century English piece was adapted to become Hail to the Chief, which has been the official song of the U.S. presidents for over 50 years. We recorded two versions in May at Cigol Studios in Hollywood, which uses SmartAV control surfaces to record and mix through Logic Pro onto Macintosh servers. This is the version we like best. Gene Yazbahr is on electric bass, Dan Daugherty on electric piano and Korg Triton, Darr Huff on drums (a Pearl Masterworks custom kit that the studio provides), Maya Hardin York on flute, and Al York on acoustic guitar (miked with a phenomenal Neumann DPA 4011). For this song, we brought in Marty Holland on additional percussion and the C. Bruese Strings to fill out the sound. We recorded this primarily to help the Cigol team test the equipment at their new studios. We did have a few technical challenges during the sessions, but overall we are very pleased with the results.
