Busy Busy!!!

tuppence (03/07/08 12:58:12)   Tag: default
Busy Busy!!! Man, what a couple of busy weeks.

I've been abseiling and rock climbing at Leigh Tor on Dartmoor. Indoor climbing at The Mill on Thurdsday night was a blast. Scaling the dizzy heights. Bit bruised from the harness but well worth it.
Just purchased Ozone 3 from Izotope. I don't know a great deal about mastering, but I'm gonna learn! On the surface it looks like an excellent pluggin. Watch this space!

Arrrgggg!!!!! Someone kick me up the arse!!!!!!

tuppence (02/03/08 21:03:05)   Tag: default
Oh man, another weekend over and I've not recorded my 2 new songs. All written and ready.
Why oh why can't I find the motivation to get up in the "Studio" (loft) and record them.
It's not difficult. I've done it before. I'm a big boy and the loft holds no fears of ghosties/creepies/crawlies or nasties of any other kind. I like my new songs.
I have given myself a headache trying to persuade myself to get up there and get playing.

I had a free day today. I was supposed to be going abseiling, but it was called off 'cos of the weather. Ideal opportunity you'd think. Oh no. I sat on the couch and watched Pirates of the Caribbean: at Worlds End. Then went to sleep.

Granted it was a crappy day weather wise and I could not have recorded the vocals what with the rain frantically syncopating on the roof, but I could have done other tracks.

Hey ho. Next weekend I guess. maybe . . .

Rejection again!

tuppence (01/14/08 21:51:19)   Tag: default
Hey ho,

I can't say too much 'cos you never know who might be reading.

Needless to say, it comes to something when you can't get a job in retail on the high street. :(

Happy New Year!

tuppence (01/01/08 17:08:26)   Tag: default
Happy New Year! Ha, well, there we have it. 2007 is no more.

I managed, with the help of a few friends to get my play-count over 1000 before then end of the year. A small milestone I know, but to me it meant a lot.

Not too much of a hangover today. I drank responsibly. Got up this a.m. and went for a walk on Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor. I've put a couple of photos on facebook if anyone is interested.

Happy new year everyone!

Back on track again

tuppence (11/24/07 20:47:21)   Tag: default
Well, I've had a busy old couple of months with work/decorating and a fairly mad spell of socialising.

Lots of people leaving the company I work for, so lots of leaving do's. Sad to see them all go, but we've had some good nights out.

Saw Turin Brakes a couple of months back, in Exeter. Very good.

Upgraded to OS 10.5 Leopard. No problems so far (since the update supplied 1 week after release by Apple) which cured some rather serious GarageBand and iMovie/iDVD issues. As I'm working on a new song and editing a movie of my wife driving a racing car, I was pretty gutted when they started playing up after the upgrade. All good now and I have to say I quite like Leopard.

Apart from Stacks. Which is crap. Really awful. Honestly.

Anyhow, new song on the way soon and I hope now to have more time to dedicate on the forums.

BTW. I'm now on Facebook, so if anyone else wants another friend, just search for
Paul Barrett - I'm in Devon.

Ashfest and new song

tuppence (09/16/07 20:01:48)   Tag: default
Went to Ashill, a village not far away from here last night (if you are familiar with the music of Joss Stone you'll know this is where she hails from).

They had a small music fest (Ashfest). Couple of stages (a tent and the village hall). Lots of local talent, a good night was had by all. A few beers were drunk and I met 3 people I hadn't seen for about 10 years.

Also, finished recording my new tune, Sleepy Ninja

Enjoy! :D

Bass haste

tuppence (08/19/07 00:33:57)   Tag: default
I bought a bass guitar today. Never played one before, but I had a hankering.

Just recorded the bassline to my new one available now at all good record stores.

I'm quite pleased with my first effort.

See what you think . . . Outside Tonight

500+ plays!

tuppence (08/01/07 11:11:01)   Tag: default
Yay! At last, 500-odd plays.

Took a while to get here, but there we go. :D

I'll permit myself a small celebration.

Inspiration and motivation at last!

tuppence (07/28/07 18:24:41)   Tag: default
Thank goodness for Bombay Saphire Gin, a decent tonic and a twist of lemon, taken 1-2 times hourly for 3 hours.

Guaranteed to clear any creative blockages.

I'm back in the studio (loft) at last!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Lack of inspiration and motivation

tuppence (07/08/07 20:52:34)   Tag: default
I am definately in a rut creatively speaking. :(

I've got a couple of songs in their early stages i.e. tunes worked out, some initial lyrics. All I lack is the motivation and inspiration to do anything with them!

I really don't know how to give myself the mental kick up the arse I need.

All ideas/suggestions gratefully recieved. :D

Back to the beginning!

tuppence (06/17/07 13:53:54)   Tag: default
Hey ho, the play counts have been lost, just as I was about to crawl through the 500 plays barrier. It's not just me - it seems to effect all artists. :(

Teccy work is afoot however! Thanks to the hard-working guys behind MacIdol things are apparently sortable. Yay! :D

Thanks guys, keep up the good work!

Thea Gilmore gig

tuppence (05/06/07 14:56:30)   Tag: default
Wow!!! Still buzzing after last night. Managed to get tickets to the last night of Thea Gilmore's current tour.

I cannot beleive how lucky I was. The gig was in a village hall in Sandford (near Crediton in Sunny Devon) of all places. There was a couple of good warmup acts, then just Thea, Nigel and 2 guitars and an intimate audience of around 200.

It was all part of the Sanford Music Festival A great time was had by all.

I bought a copy of "Loft Music" which I've been searching for, and Thea signed it. Kewl!

:D :D :D :D :D

My stuff

tuppence (02/18/07 16:34:39)   Tag: default
Been playing guitar badly for 17 years on and off. Started to really enjoy it a couple of years ago when I hooked up with a mate and started to jam once a week.

I found GarageBand hiding on my Mac, and I was hooked!

I bought an external soundcard as the iBook G4 does not have an audio in, thank you Griffen iMic - it's great.

I moved all my stuff into the loft so not to annoy my wife with the clutter, bought a £30 mic and off I went.

The kit: semi-acoustic hollow back guitar - cheap but nice action. 15 year old Yamaha PSR keyboard (midi in and out - yay!). iBook 14" G4, Yamaha drum pad, Strat copy, Yamaha 12 string acoustic and an old Honer Arbour acoustic

These are the only songs I've ever recorded (so far).

Vocal Critique

tuppence (03/19/07 20:42:46)   Tag: default
A friend of someone who shall remain nameless recently compared my vocal sound to a cross between "that bloke from the Happy Mondays*" and Chris de Burgh.

I'm hoping she has no musical taste as I quite like the HMs ref, CDB is my nemesis . Lady in Red is perhaps my least fave song ever. Apart from anything by Celine Dion. :D

*I hope she meant Shaun Ryder and not Bez awrighhttt! Mind you, I tend to dance like a **** as well.

Just changed my forum username from Tuppence to Fluffy Bunny Feet. I was getting confused with a split personality!

Thanks to cStu for the advice.

SPAMALOT

tuppence (03/03/07 15:34:11)   Tag: default
I know this is unrelated to MacIdol etc., but I went to see Monty-Python's Spamalot in London's West End on Tuesday. I laughed 'til my sides split.

Check it out . . .

It's also on Broadway.
