Doug Jackson: Born in 1960 in Washington DC, I started out playing the trumpet at age 7 and composed my first piece of music at age 8. Later when I was 14 my good friend Andrew Larson gave me my first guitar. I started playing it. At about age 9 I heard one of the most fantastic albums ever released called “We’re Only In It For The Money” by Frank Zappa. It remains one of my all time favorites. Later I went to the Shenandoah Conservatory to refine my music notation, and theoretical abilities with regard to composition. I formed a band to perform some of my compositions in 1984 called “Miles Long and the Three Prong Method”. Two of my orchestral works were premiered by the Arlington Symphony Orchestra. 2/5/84 – Music for Piano and Orchestra 4/30/89 – Concentric Shades – Conducted by David Pollitt Currently I am in a band that performs dance and party music from the ‘60’s. Today I compose using only guitar and computer. Some of the resulting music you can hear at this location. |
