Well! My U2 cover went thru the roof!! And it took my own stuff along for the ride. Thanks to all those who said nice things, and to all those who bagged the vocals - you were sooo right. I only put them there to prove it really was that song. I have removed them now. I am open to trying someone else's singing. I did this song to show off GB and prove it is not just a toy for tinkerers. I think I succeeded. But if you want to hear some decent music, get in and dig around MacIdol. Don't just listen to covers or else that's all we'll end up seeing here. Encourage the creative edge. Listen to more originals. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

Wow! I never expected the U2 cover to be so popular. Thanks to all those who wrote me such good things about it and my own compositions. I hope it's inspired you to try and beat it, but with your own stuff. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

Wired eZine (www.wired.com - oops. sorry to Wired, I had this address wrong) have written an article about GarageBand which included a reference to my U2 cover as "...impressively awful...". I'm cool with that but am very disappointed they did not mention MacIdol as requested. Here is my response to them: Hi Leander Now that's a backhander and a half! I don't mind. As I've said elsewhere - everything is "wrong" about this arrangement (the bass line, the drum line, the guitar line, the tambourine line, the lead line, the dukketer-dukketer guitar line) yet it is instantly recognizable. This was an experiment to see if I could do a cover solely with standard GB loops. I succeeded, but my goal is what makes it both impressive and awful (you're lucky you didn't here the singing!). It is impressive because it does sound enough like the U2 song; it's awful because it sounds like a Karaoke version. The point of doing a cover in GB is because it forces limitations - and you learn a lot by working at the edge of those limitations. Again, this song only uses stock standard GB loops and no external recordings. With those limitations it was always going to be difficult. But it was worth it - even tho I'm tempted at times to do it right but that would mean recording most of the parts. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}
