Just posted (5/1) a preview of one of the songs in my upcoming Mother Road Suite album, celebrating America's favorite highway of yesteryear, Route 66. The tune is "Road Trip" and, if all goes as planned, it will eventually have lyrics and vocals. Other tunes I'm working on for the album are "Dust Bowl", "Cadillac Ranch", "Main Street USA", and "Chicago to Santa Monica". As always, thanks for listening. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

Having finished up the "Moment of a Force" EP last week, I'm now back to completing the retrospective "Back Tracks" album, consisting of remixed and remastered versions of a dozen of my 2004 GarageBand tunes. Newest remix is The Diamond Age, inspired by the 1995 Neal Stephenson science fiction novel. Back in 2004, it was the first piece in my continuing "Phantom Films" album, which focuses of main title themes for non-existing films and TV shows. As always, thanks for listening. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

The diversion over to the Moment of a Force EP is almost over with the addition of "Stigmata". There will be one additional piece in the EP, bringing the total to 6, and then I'll get back to and wrap up the Back Tracks retrospective remix album before starting the Route 66 album. In addition, my brother and I continue to rebuild and build out the sonobeat.com site, where you can see some pix of me as a geeky, gangling teen in the '60s. Ugh! {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

Quantum Entanglement is a preview of my new, all electronica spring album, Moment of a Force. I'll be finishing up Back Tracks over the next week and then turning full attention to the new album. The Route 66: The Mother Road album is pushed back to late spring, because I will be asking a lot of MacIdolers for collaborations on it. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

Pleased to offer up a remastered version of one of my mid-2004 tunes, Gridlock. The original .band track appears lost, so I've tweaked as much as possible through Ozone 3 mastering. The tune originally had no mastering applied and was offered as a raw mix right out of GB1. I recall that this was one of the first tunes in which I started stretching out with MIDI string arranging. I bought the Wizoosounds.com string section -- this was long before Apple offered its Symphony Jam Pack with its beautiful string instruments -- and installed them with GB Import, then had some fun with playful pizzicatos contrasting with brooding legatos. Well, OK, maybe they weren't playful or brooding... I've been unusually busy at work the past month and with the rebuilding of the sonobeat.com site with my brother, so getting up the Back Tracks album has taken much longer than originally anticipated, along with work on the new spring album, Route 66: The Mother Road. Hope to be able to crank it up again at MacIdol in the coming couple of weeks since the relaunch of the Sonobeat site is almost finished. As always, thanks for listening. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

My brother and I have spent the past weeks giving our non-commercial website, www.sonobeat.com, a complete facelift and a bunch of new features. Waaay back in the '60s, my dad and I started Sonobeat, a genuinely small recording company and label, in Austin, Texas. The company had a 9 year active life but died along with our dad in 1976. Sonobeat.com traces the history of a lot of great Texas musicians -- including bluesman Johnny Winter, whose first album we recorded -- through the "eyes" of Sonobeat. Please visit and explore if you have a few spare minutes and are interested in Central Texas music during the period Austin began its rise to prominence as the Live Music Capital of the World. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

"Goofy the Auto Mechanic" has been remastered for the Back Tracks retrospective album and "Dirty Shop Talk" has been remixed and remastered. The original versions have been "hidden" in my jamroom for a couple of years. Both are from February 2004 and were my 5th and 6th GarageBand tunes, respectively. Thanks for listening to these refreshed versions. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

"Driveshaft" was my third GarageBand tune, created in February 2004. I was trying for an Isaac Hayes sound. I pulled it out of my jamroom during spring cleaning a couple of years ago, but now it's back for a limited engagement, remastered with Ozone 3. Thanks for listening! {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

As I begin my 5th year as a member of the MacIdol community, I offer a retrospective of a dozen of my 2004 Garageband creations, newly remixed and/or remastered, and some returning to my jamroom after a 2 year absence. Doesn't that just make your heart grow fonder? I'll add one of the 12 tunes to my jamroom roughly every other day during the first half of February. My first GB tune was "Salt Shaker", which I've both remixed and remastered for its 2008 reappearance. Thanks for listening! {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

The Mazes album closes out with the 10th and final tune, "For Every Beginning an End", intended as a moody, circumspect metaphor for the world we live in. Up next, a retrospective selection of remixed and remastered tunes I created during my first year as a member of MacIdol, then on to a new album themed around America's Mother Road, historic Route 66. {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}

January 25, 2008, marked the start of my 5th year as a member of MacIdol. Look how far this great site has come in its first four years. I bought iLife on my birthday, January 16, 2004, immediately began playing with GarageBand, and at the beginning of February posted my first tune, "Salt Shaker". From the very beginning, I've received only encouragement and welcome constructive criticism from the continually growing community here. I've enjoyed the collegial and congenial atmosphere here so much that I don't belong to any other music sharing site. MacIdol's the best! {MESSAGE_MORE_POPUP}
