The VAN BUREN BROTHERS formed in June 2003 but their fingerprints are smeared across the recent chequered history of Liverpool bands.

Our tale begins way back in ’95, when a teenage Matt Van Buren joined indie faves KILL LAURA and met bass player Jonathan. A partnership began then that the now fabled Van Buren sound is built upon.

As the KILL LAURA dynasty drew to a close, Matt and Jonathan found themselves with a bunch of high powered rock numbers but with no guitar legend to bring them to life. Enter Marty Van Buren. Marty, real brother of Matt and a card-carrying member of hardcore Scousers DBH, made the band complete and within three weeks the trio had harnessed their powers to play their first gig together. The show left friends and onlookers dumbfounded - surely this was meant to be? Alas no...

Marty was off on a European tour with his former band and Matt and Jonathan boarded the doomed SPOONWAGON – their rock n’ roll lives severed...but not forever!

The SPOONWAGON came to a halt and Matt and Jonathan found themselves as part of riotous new wavers BLACKOUT – releasing two EP’s, playing some great live shows and even winning a band ‘face off’ on the Chris Moyles’ TV show.

But Marty then returned with no band and the temptation proved too strong. The VAN BUREN BROTHERS were united once again and quickly recorded two songs ‘Flake’ and ‘Cool Down’ – and fulfilled their destiny when they played the Masque Theatre, Liverpool in September 2003. The crowd that night received a direct, loud festival of heavy rock with "tunes that ran around their brains until they were lucky enough to hear them again".

Since that gig the band have honed their sound, released four EP’s and accepted the inevitable plaudits. Recent gigs with HOPE OF THE STATES and NINE BLACK ALPS as well as a spot on London rock station Xfm have confirmed that the VAN BUREN BROTHERS are a band on the way up.

With promoters clamouring for the band to play their clubs and a session in the studio planned in the coming months expect to hear a lot more from the VAN BUREN BROTHERS.
